Pilates

Miss Pickard has been running the after-school Pilates Club for a couple of weeks now, and the girls that have joined are really enjoying learning this calm practise of exercise and movement, developed by Joseph Pilates in the early 20th century. He was a German physical trainer, who saw the benefits of repetitive exercises and how they contribute to improving balance and helping build muscle strength in adults.

Our club starts each session with a warm-up and then they carry out stretches and poses, looking at building up core strength. There has been a weekly challenge to see who can pose in one position the longest; this is something Miss Pickard needs to work on! Afterwards, they enjoy a relaxing cool-down.

The children have learnt enough in a short time, to be able to be confident in leading certain stretches and poses and volunteering to deliver the warm-ups. Well done!
