Last week, we were very excited to welcome top athlete Sean Gaffney to the school.
Sean was involved in a freak accident in 1999 while preparing for the Royal Tournament which involved him having to undergo 25 surgeries and resulted in a leg amputation. Since then, Sean has also battled cancer twice but through grit and resilience has competed in both the Invictus Games and Commonwealth Games.

Sean led a sponsored fitness circuit with all pupils in the 3 classes and then delivered a really engaging talk to Class 1 and an inspirational assembly to classes 2 and 3, along with a question and answer session. The aim of the event was to inspire the pupils to be more physically active and to encourage them to discover and pursue their passions in life.
The athlete event was fantastic for connecting the pupils to an extraordinary athlete role model and gave us the opportunity to raise money to improve physical activity in the school, whilst also supporting both athletes and para-athletes, so that they can continue to inspire the next generation.
A huge thank you to those children that have returned their sponsorship forms and monies. So far, at Burton Salmon, we have raised a grand total of £440.00 (with £35.00 raised online). That's amazing!
