Remembrance Walk 2023

What is Remembrance Day in the United Kingdom?

Remembrance Sunday, in the UK, is held on the second Sunday of November that commemorates British service members who have died in wars and other military conflicts since the onset of World War I. Traditionally, a two-minute silence is observed throughout the country at 11 AM, and church services and other ceremonial gatherings take place during the day.

On Friday 10th November, Mrs Newton, Mrs Obridge and 5 children (3 x School Council members from Class 3 and 2 x Year 3 children) walked through the village to the Burton Salmon War Memorial to lay a handmade wreath from each class. The poppy is a symbol of both remembrance and hope for a peaceful future.

We observed a 2-minute silence and thoughtfully read the names of all the local soldiers who sacrificed their lives, as soldiers, in the Great War. The children noticed that there were several men with the same surname, which suggested they may have been brothers from the same family.

The children represented Burton Salmon beautifully and respectfully.
