Message from Burton Salmon Parish Council
Hello from Burton Salmon Parish Council. We’d like to extend a warm welcome to all school parents (old and new) to Burton Salmon. We hope the children have settled well into the school. The school plays a pivotal role in village life, and it’s important to us as a parish council that the school remains open. We understand to do this, the school must accept pupils from outside of the village. In order to get children to school we appreciate that the majority of these pupils arrive by car. Unfortunately we have had a number of complaints made to us with regards to inappropriate and dangerous parking. This is centred round the junction where Ledgate Lane, New Lane and Main Street meet. We’ve worked closely with the school over the last few years, so we know this isn’t a new issue, nor is it one specific to our village. However it is one which we will continue to address. We’d like to take this opportunity to remind you that it is a road traffic offence to park on the yellow zig zag lines at any time, which are on the road outside the school. Likewise, there is no waiting or stopping on single yellow lines.
In terms of the junction, it is not acceptable to park within 10m. This is to allow drivers turning into or from the junction a clear view. Unfortunately the problem has become so bad some mornings and afternoons with a number of near misses reported, that we have taken the decision to involve the police. As such, residents will be photographing vehicles parked inappropriately and reporting them to the police. The police have agreed to investigate repeat offenders where evidence has been provided, and likely to prosecute repeat offenders. So where can you park? We ask that you allow a couple of extra minutes to your school run and park on roads without yellow lines, located in and around the village. There is also the car park opposite the pub (next to beach grove) and the car park at the village hall that are free to use too. We appreciate that this is not just a problem caused by parents, so we will be communicating appropriate parking to residents also. If anyone has any other issues relating to the village that they would like to raise, please do get in touch by visiting our website: www.burtonsalmonpc.org.uk Finally, we hope to see as many of you at our Christmas lights switch-on tonight (Friday 29th November). More information is available on our website and Facebook page. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding. Burton Salmon Parish Council.
