Victorian Day

Today Miss McNichol, Miss Potts and Miss Kiely went back in time with Class 2 and held a Victorian Day to link in with recent topic work. The children all looked fantastic in their costumes (Miss McNichol looked very strict!) and they were able to experience a little of what school children in Victorian times might have had to endure.

There were rules to follow, lots of lining up, writing on chalkboards, the boys read the Bible whilst the girls balanced books on their heads, they studied arithmetic after break and took part in a Victorian PE lesson outside. One of the children even received a pretend ‘caning’ and had to stay in at break!

Jacob said: ‘I didn’t like it when the dunce’s hat was on my head’ and Ivy said: ‘it was really fun when we played with the skipping ropes and hoops’. ‘I liked it when the girls had to balance books on their heads and when we used chalk and the boards’ said Lily.
