World Book Day 2024 - Reading together

Today we celebrated World Book Day 2024 in school, with a non-uniform day and something a little different to our normal non-uniform day.

We invited the children (and staff) to come to school dressed up as a WORD!

To celebrate our love of books and reading, we wanted everyone to think of their favourite word, any word, and to try and incorporate this into an outfit, or an item of clothing, which showed off the word.

A few examples given were: ‘sleepy’ and you could wear a pair of pyjamas, ‘Superhero’ to match a costume you may have at home, a colour – for example ‘red’ and wear all red clothes, ‘wizard’ dress up as a famous wizard character, ‘sporty’ and wear a team sports kit or a ‘character’s name’ from a favourite book.

We were blown away with all of the children's favourite word creations! Some of the fantastic examples we had were: gecko, fireman, princess, cat/feline, dragon, disguise, avenge, sporty, me, cricketer, Barbie, rugby, peacock, fox, pink, mouse, cheerleader, footballer, monochrome, cowgirl, history, fragile, Taylor, mermaid, comfortable, farmer, wonder, sporty, ladybird, super-hero and lots more!

In the afternoon, the children from Class 3 came into Class 1 and read stories to the younger children - it was a lovely day!

As usual, all the children received a £1.00 World Book Day token, to redeem at participating booksellers by 31st March 2024.
